WE LOVE LUCY

Lucy Lu came to live with us on February 19, 2007.

She is a two-year-old standard poodle whose previous owners found they did not have enough time to devote to her and gave her up for adoption.

Lucy has been with us for a week now, and has settled in well. It took her only three days to claim a spot on the bed at night. She has allowed the cat to dominate her, but maintains the right to chase the cat whenever she feels like it. She has destroyed two cheap tennis balls already. Her biggest claim to fame is a pirouette she does while she is waiting for you to throw a ball for her... it is worthy of the Doggy Olympics!

Our Meeting with Lucy

On Saturday, February 10 we went to Lucy's house to meet her.

She was outside on her back deck when we arrived. She came in the slider a bit shyly... but went straight to her toybox and picked up a slipper. She then came to each of us, nuzzled the slipper into our hands, then ran off with it in a game of chase.

We sat and let her bring us toys, sniff and lick our hands and just get used to us. She is a delightful dog. She had just been to the groomer so was sleek and had a cute pink bow on the pouf at her forehead.

We talked for about a half hour with her mom, and learned what she likes and dislikes. She has never been taken "walkies".... so that is something she can look forward to at our house! She did not bark once while we were there.

Both of us feel she would be just the dog for us. So we will have another visit with her in a couple of weeks... this time she will come to our house and hang out for a couple of hours.

I think Lucy might be the one to take Panda's place. She had many of the same attributes that we so loved about Panda: she was sassy, loved to fetch and tug at toys, looked at us intently when we spoke to her.... she even did the little drop of the head but uproll of the eyes thing... watching you to see if you are going to go in for the toy!

Going For A Visit

We are going to visit "Lucy" this weekend. She is a 2 year old standard poodle who lives on Fox Island... not far from where we live.

Lucy was recommended to us by the Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue folks. This may be our next Forever Dog. We shall see... and keep you posted!

Waiting for Someone New

It has been over six months since Panda died. We are feeling a big empty hole where he used to be. So we have applied to the Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue... our goal is to give a home to a young Standard Poodle. We should be having a home visit from one of their reps sometime later this week...

Farewell to a Faithful Friend

Panda was born in September of 1992. He was a Cocker Spaniel-Sheltie cross. We bought him from the Chow Town Pet Store in Kelowna, B.C. as a present for our son Alan. He lived with us for 14 years... in Kelowna, B.C., Longview, Texas and Gig Harbor, Washington . Our beloved Panda died on August 9 of 2006. He is missed.
